October 12, 2007
Korea's Samsung aims to boost mobile phone production capacity and increase sales points in India, according to the Economic Times of India.

Currently the number four mobile phone vendor in India, Samsung is eyeing the number two position and seeks to rack up an 18% market share by year-end 2008. So as to meet the goal, Samsung plans to sell approximately 10 million mobile phones and to enhance production capacity at its Manesar plant to 1.5 million units per year. Moreover, Samsung plans to open over 500 sales points in India to expand its mobile phone business. Nokia, the current mobile phone market leader in India, boasts a total of 72,000 retail stores, constituting the majority of the 79,000 such stores in India.

In 2008, Samsung plans to roll out more than 20 new mobile phones in India, most of which are expected to be mid- and high-end models.
